Why loot decisions matter in an idle RPG

Task Bar of Ragnalis looks simple from the taskbar: heroes fight automatically, open chests, and drop gear while you do something else. The skill expression sits in the inventory. You decide which pieces to keep, which duplicates feed the nine-copy tier-up rule, and which random skill rolls deserve a long climb.

This Items hub collects loot theory for the wiki. It stays inside known systems from Jagernaut Games’ free-to-play Steam release (July 30, 2026): party of three, stack nine copies to tier up, random skills on gear. It does not invent Task Bar Hero cube or rune crafts.

What drops are for

Chests and stage rewards exist to:

  • Raise the clearer’s damage so waves finish while you are AFK
  • Keep a survival seat alive on denser maps
  • Feed stack counts toward the next tier
  • Occasionally tempt you with a skill roll worth rebuilding around

If you treat every common as vendor trash, you delete the ladder. If you keep everything forever, storage becomes the boss. The healthy middle is a priority list tied to your three-hero plan on Party Builds.

Core pages in this hub

  1. Eight Equipment Slots — the loadout board every hero wears
  2. Random Skills Explained — why two items with the same name are not equal
  3. How Tier-Ups Work — the nine-copy rule as a planning system
  4. Cross into How to Stack Items for the step-by-step inventory workflow
  5. Use the Stack Calculator when napkin math gets messy

New players should still read How to Play and Starter Class so equipment menus and class locks are familiar before optimizing loot.

Class locks and why they belong on an items page

Loot is not universal. Early players report gear that will not equip on the hero they are leveling. That makes “best item” a party question:

  • Can Seat 1 wear it now?
  • Can Seat 2 or Seat 3 wear it later?
  • Is it close to nine copies for a tier-up someone can use?

Gunner-focused accounts should skim the Gunner Guide before mass-vendoring gunner-looking trash. Broader role advice lives on the Classes hub and Tier List.

Random skills in one paragraph

Equipment can roll random skills. That RNG is a feature of the loop: keep farming when you need a better roll, and invest heavily only when a piece matches your clearer or survival plan. Full detail is on Random Skills. Do not confuse “random skill” with unrelated systems from other taskbar games.

Tier-ups in one paragraph

Official store messaging highlights gathering nine copies of the same item to tier it up. That rule turns AFK time into a schedule. Count copies, finish lines for the active party, and only then convert true junk to gold. Full planning: Tier Up, practical habits: Stack Items.

Inventory pressure and DLC storage

Full bags are part of the design tension. Clean low-priority lines first. Paid storage exists on Steam as separate DLC and should be evaluated after you know which item lines deserve space—see the DLC hub. Buying bag space before you have a stacking plan usually just delays the same clutter.

Brand-new

  • Anything Seat 1 can equip that raises clear speed
  • Survival scraps that stop early wipe loops
  • Duplicates toward the first nine-copy tier on those lines

Stable idle

  • Better skill rolls for the clearer
  • Finishing near-complete stacks before starting new names
  • Flex-seat loot only when Seats 1–2 are real

DLC-aware

  • Hold Pirate / Overlord-locked piles only if you own those classes or are about to buy them (Pirate & Overlord)
  • Do not hoard paid-class trash “just in case” if free seats still need tiers

Tools and setup that support loot play

Unreadable inventories create false “bad drop” stories. Fix the window before you rewrite your filter rules.

Stay honest about launch context

Launch feedback was harsh. Item advice here prioritizes player failure modes—panic selling, ignored locks, unfinished stacks, wrong-game systems—over fantasy loot tables. Revisit after patches if Jagernaut changes drop or tier rules. This wiki is unofficial.

Use the Items hub whenever search lands on loot questions. Use Classes for roster questions. Use Guides for the check-in loop. That separation keeps each article deep and internally linked.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the main item upgrade rule?

Gather nine copies of the same item to tier it up. Start with [Tier Up](/items/tier-up/) and [Stack Items](/guides/stack-items/).

Why do two identical names feel different?

Gear can roll random skills. Compare rolls before investing—see [Random Skills](/items/random-skills/).

Should I sell commons for gold?

Not if they are near a nine-copy tier for a seat you actually field. Gold panic deletes progress ladders.

Where do class locks fit?

Check tooltips before vendoring. Pair this hub with [Classes](/classes/) and [Gunner](/classes/gunner/) so loot matches your party.
