Eight slots are the loadout contract

Official “how to play” messaging for Task Bar of Ragnalis tells you to update eight equipment slots as part of the build step in the watch / loot / build loop. That number is not flavor text. Every hero you field is only as strong as the pieces those eight slots accept, the random skills on those pieces, and whether the item is legal for that class.

This page sits between the Items hub, Random Skills, and Tier Up guides. It explains how to think about slots while you idle, how stacking feeds better slot occupants, and how inventory pressure tempts bad fills.

What “fill eight slots” really means

A filled slot is not automatically a good slot. Early accounts often:

  • Leave slots empty because every drop was locked to another class
  • Fill slots with the first legal common and never revisit
  • Hoard higher-looking names that lose to a lower tier with a better random skill
  • Vendor pieces that were two copies away from a nine-copy tier-up

Your check-in job is comparative: open the panel, compare the new drop to the equipped piece, then decide equip / stack / sell. The How to Play guide frames that rhythm; this page focuses on the loadout board itself.

Slots × class locks

Class-restricted gear is progress only for the hero who can wear it. If your starter is Gunner and the chest returns Templar Knight plate, that piece is either:

  • Future fuel for a second seat you will unlock soon, or
  • Storage tax until you field Templar Knight

Plan unlocks with Starter Class and Party Builds so slot-legal gear has a home. Pirate and Overlord DLC add more legal wearers—and more ways to clutter bags—see DLC.

Slots × nine-copy tier-ups

Gathering nine matching items creates the next tier. Slot quality jumps when a tier-up lands on a line you actually wear. Practical habits:

  1. Pick one or two primary lines per hero
  2. Protect those stacks even when gold is low
  3. Use the Stack Calculator near breakpoints
  4. Do not fill all eight slots from eight unrelated unfinished piles

Slots × random skills

Two swords with the same name can perform differently because equipment can roll random skills. When comparing slot candidates:

  • Prefer the skill that matches the hero’s job (clear, survive, sustain)
  • Do not auto-equip “rarer” if the skill is dead for your party plan
  • Keep a runner-up in storage if it is close on stacks and skills

Read Random Skills Explained before you burn an inventory of near-misses.

Inventory pressure and Storage DLC

Eight equipped slots are only the tip. Bags fill with synthesis material, locked gear, and skill experiments. If offline sessions (Offline Rewards) refill junk faster than you sort, compare cleanup habits against Storage Expansion and the bundle math in Complete DLC Pack. Storage is convenience for valued duplicates, not a damage stat.

Patch notes that touch “I can’t tell what I equipped”

v1.0.1 added a temporary text size option and promised future resolution-based UI scaling. If you cannot read requirements on gear, you will mis-fill slots—use Controls and Taskbar Setup. Reward soft locks in v1.0.2 can also make it look like slots never improve because chests never open; fix that via Troubleshooting before you redesign the whole loadout.

Party of three multiplies slot work

Each hero has their own eight-slot board. Unlocking seat three without gear is how accounts feel poorer after “progress.” Before a new seat:

  • Confirm you have legal drops or a farm plan
  • Assign roles so slot priorities do not overlap wastefully
  • Sketch the team in the Party Planner

Practical slot checklist each session

  1. For each hero, scan all eight slots for obvious upgrades
  2. Flag near-complete stacks that feed equipped lines
  3. Park locked gear only if a seat unlock is imminent
  4. Sell true junk after stack protection
  5. Re-park on a clearable stage so the next idle/offline block feeds those lines
  • Items Hub — loot overview
  • Guides — progression and recovery
  • Classes — who wears what fantasy
  • Updates — when patches change readability or rewards
  • Review — expectation setting if gear RNG feels hostile

Eight equipment slots are the visible contract between idle time and power. Fill them on purpose, tier the lines you wear, and let random skills break ties—then the taskbar loop stops being a loot landfill and starts being a loadout machine.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many equipment slots does each hero have?

Official how-to messaging says to update eight equipment slots as part of the build step.

Should I equip every higher-named drop?

No. Compare class legality, tier, and random skills against the piece already in the slot.

What if drops are locked to another class?

Keep them only if you will unlock that seat soon; otherwise they are storage tax. Plan with [Starter Class](/guides/starter-class/).

Does Storage Expansion add more equipment slots?

No. It expands inventory space for stacks and comparisons, not the eight-slot loadout board.
